The time God has given us on this earth is to be spent wisely, productively, and with respect towards oneself and neighbor. Time is a measure in which events occur in irreversible succession. Each day is a reflective measure of time. Existence on earth consists of a never-ending cycle of actions in which there is no vacant moment. However, from perspective point of view, some instances in life feel like a washed out towel. Many of these reflections are brought on by our intuitions and our ability to distinguish. One of the most time consuming monsters is television. Children spend the majority of their precious minutes wasting away at the television set reducing their mental and physical development (American Psychological Association, 1993). The most thought provoking statistic comes from the Huston et al., 1992, which found that by the time a child enters middle school, the amount of murders and acts of violence the immature individual will see is estimated at 108,000. Children are subjected to these types of negative influences which damage them and society. An experiment was conducted using an EEG (electroencephalograph) to test people´s brain wave reactions to television. The study indicated that the alpha brain wave production was decreased; therefore, mental stimulation was also decreased. By watching excessive amounts of television, the brain becomes sluggish and mellow. Video games are similar time-capturing, dangerous pieces of matter. Not only do they ooze with violence, they are also a possible health risk. In 1997, 700 Japanese children found themselves in a hospital suffering from „optically stimulated epileptic seizure” which was brought on by the bright flashing lights from a video game. There are many other ways in which society squanders its time and damages its mental health, but why? God has given us parks, lakes, mountains, and grass; why aren´t we taking advantage of all these natural wonders? Instead, we are rotting away on our sofas with a remote in one hand, and a bag of chips in the other. Our overt memories are being lessened, along with our happiness and health. Summer has come, and the days are long and beautiful. Shouldn´t we take advantage of them?
